Badla: Movie Review
Time tamarkar |
Sujoy Ghosh's film 'Badla' is inspired by the Spanish film 'The Invisible Guest' which has been made in Hindi with a slight shuffle. It is a thriller movie that revolves mainly around two characters Naina Sethi (Taapsee Pannu) and Badal Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan).
Naina Sethi is accused of killing her boyfriend Arjun (Tony Luke) in a hotel room. Naina is picked by Badal Gupta as a lawyer who has not lost a single case in her 40-year career. Badal gives Naina three hours to talk to Naina so that she can get to the bottom of truth and save Naina.
Naina starts talking and many secrets are revealed in this three-hour conversation. Who is trapping Naina? Who murdered Arjun? Will Cloud be able to save Naina? Answers are provided for such things.
The original story of the film is written by Oriole Paulo and the story has so much power that the film keeps you tied for the whole time. As the film progresses, layer-by-layer things begin to unfold. The story begins to spin. As soon as the truth comes out, it starts to doubt whether it is true?
The film has less action and more dialogue. On the basis of this conversation, Badal Gupta reaches the truth. He says that what the law proves is true.
Both Naina and Badal are said to be clever. In the beginning of the film, Naina talks about what she deems necessary, but Badal gains her trust slowly and spews a lot. Through conversation, it becomes difficult to guess whether the cloud is saving or trapping Naina? Who is telling the truth and who is lying?
The audience makes their own guesses and the film moves at its own pace. Events are shown from the perspective of each character. The audience has to be alert all the time.
The climax of such films is very important and in revenge the climax is not as expected. The way the story is finished seems incredible, but by then you have already enjoyed the film. Similarly, the matter of the photo printed in the newspaper also looks fake. The name of the film tells a lot, so it could be named anything else.
Most of the shooting of the film is done in one room and yet Sujoy has kept the audience tied. It is difficult to present such a story on screen, but Sujoy has done it a lot. The editing of the film is also fantastic.
After Pink, Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu are together again and both have done amazing acting. How Amitabh wins Taapsee's trust is reflected in his acting. His dialogue is payable Kaabil-e-Praise.
Taapsee has demonstrated her talent through films like Pink, Manmargiya, Mulk. Now the name of Badla has also been added to this list. Taapsee has portrayed her character in a fun way and proved to be no less than Amitabh. Amrita Singh also leaves her impact. The acting of Tony Luke and Manav Kaul is also excellent.
The dialogues in the film are excellent, but they are few. The songs have not found a place in the film which is the right decision. The cinematography and technical side is strong. 'Revenge' does not reach the level of Sujoy Ghosh's 'Kahaani', but it is definitely worth watching.
